The Catalogue

Books — arranged by subject.

Textbooks, handbooks and monographs commissioned for classroom and professional use. Click any title to open its full entry with authors, editorial history, scope, and ordering details.

Arnold’s book list is organised here under three broad headings: health sciences and medicine; engineering, technology and statistics; and the humanities. The proportions reflect the imprint’s late-twentieth-century centre of gravity. From the 1960s onwards, medicine and the applied sciences accounted for the majority of new commissioning, and nursing texts became a substantial part of the Hodder Arnold list after the 1987 acquisition. The humanities holdings are smaller in number but include long-running literary monographs and student-facing critical guides.

Most titles on the list are written for classroom or professional use rather than for the general reader. Where a title has gone through several editions, the entry shows the edition timeline and notes which is currently in print. Each book page includes full bibliographic details, the author or editor team, scope and audience notes, and — where applicable — a short list of related titles. Inspection and desk copies for course adoption can be requested at the foot of this page.

Exploration, Mountaineering & the Classic Arnold List

Arnold built one of the finest British lists on mountaineering and exploration in the first half of the twentieth century — first-person accounts, expedition journals, and technical monographs that remain reference works for climbers, alpinists and historians of the discipline. Individual titles from this heritage list are available on request; please email feedback@arnoldpublishers.com with the title or author you are seeking.
